Psochim, Daf 117b

"

Here's some Torah on the Rashi at the beginning of parshas Lech Lecha and the daf hayomi 117b. Rashi at the start of Lech Lecha and Mesechta Pesacim daf 117b brings up the issue of Hashem signing off the first brocha of Shmonei Esrey with Avraham's name and not the other Avos. The question the Baal Hatanya asks is, ok, but what is the meaning of signing off with Magen Avraham? What's the significance of the Magen...he explains: Avraham is the epitome of chesed ...he stood for the midah of chesed which gives without limit and without discrimination. That's why he said about Yishmael "halvai he should live forever.. " In the time to come..it says that death will be swallowed up forever ..all the tumah and klipos will be destroyed...

When? Only if they get their apportioned amount of life to maintain free choice. However, if they receive this boundless chesed they will be, Chas vasholem, unable to be destroyed! Every day we say in davenning... "And Avraham woke up early in the morning.." That is to emanate endless chesed.. So we have to put a limit, a shield on this chesed so its limited and so that the tumah will be destroyed and that's why we say in the Shmonei Esrei Magen Avraham ..that is a limit on the boundless chesed.
